After months of work, Tillamook County staff have completed work on new, tsunami-related zoning proposals for the unincorporated coastal communities, including Netarts, Oceanside and Cape Meares. The proposals map out “inundation zones” in each community and place restrictions on construction of “critical facilities” within them, like schools, hospitals and emergency response centers. (Oceanside’s fire station is within such a zone, but the proposals will only affect future construction.)
The county Planning Commission will commence hearings on these proposals on October 10, 2019, but first, Community Development Director Sarah Absher will host local public meetings to answer questions and take feedback. The presentation for proposals affecting Oceanside, Netarts and Cape Meares will take place at 9 am on September 14, 2019, at the Netarts Fire District Building at 1235 5 St. Loop West.
